JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES
Jehovah's Witnesses are NOT CHRISTIAN and should be avoided because:
- Denies the Trinity and deity of Christ
- Teaches Jesus is a created being (Michael the Archangel)
- Holy Spirit is an impersonal force, not God
- Uses altered Bible translation (NWT) to support false doctrine
- Salvation through works and organization loyalty
- Shuns former members, destroying families
- History of failed prophecies
Per "How to Find a Courageous Church": Jehovah's Witnesses are "not Christian but are pretending to be Christian."
DENOMINATION BACKGROUND
Jehovah's Witnesses originated from the Bible Student movement founded by Charles Taze Russell in the 1870s. Russell rejected the Trinity and hell, teaching that Christ was a created being.
After Russell's death in 1916, Joseph Rutherford took control and reorganized the movement, adopting the name "Jehovah's Witnesses" in 1931. The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society serves as the governing organization.
The organization has made numerous failed end-times predictions (1914, 1925, 1975) and is known for strict social control, including shunning former members.
While presentation has evolved, core heretical doctrines remain:
- Denies the Trinity (Jehovah is one person, not triune)
- Jesus is Michael the Archangel, a created being, not God
- Holy Spirit is an impersonal "active force"
- No hell, wicked are annihilated
- Only 144,000 go to heaven; others live on paradise earth
- Salvation through works and loyalty to the organization
The New World Translation is their own Bible version, specifically altered to support their theology (e.g., John 1:1 "the Word was a god").
- Charles Taze Russell (1852-1916): Founder of Bible Students
- Joseph Rutherford (1869-1942): Reorganized as Jehovah's Witnesses
- Nathan Knorr (1905-1977): Expanded global operations
- Governing Body: Eight-member leadership council (anonymous until recently)
JW locations (NOT CHRISTIAN - to be avoided):
- Watchtower Headquarters (Warwick, NY) - World headquarters
- Kingdom Halls - Local meeting places worldwide
- Branch offices globally
These are NOT Christian churches. Jehovah's Witnesses deny essential Christian doctrine.
