DENOMINATION BACKGROUND
Acts 29 Network was founded in 1998 as a church planting network with a vision to plant churches that plant churches. The network grew significantly under the leadership of Mark Driscoll at Mars Hill Church in Seattle.
After Driscoll's resignation in 2014, the network reorganized under new leadership, maintaining its church planting focus while distancing from Driscoll's controversial leadership style. Matt Chandler served as president from 2012-2022.
Today Acts 29 is a global network of approximately 800 churches across 50 countries, united by Reformed theology, complementarian convictions, and a passion for church planting.
Acts 29 has maintained consistent Reformed and complementarian theology:
- Affirms biblical inerrancy and authority
- Calvinist soteriology (doctrines of grace)
- Complementarian on gender roles in church leadership
- Traditional Christian sexual ethics
- Elder-led church governance
The network's doctrinal positions have remained stable, though leadership structures evolved after 2014.
